It’s the second to last day of National Novel Writing Month. I’m working on Book 5: Chrysalis Chronology. It’s the final book in this series. As of yesterday, I’ve got 57705 words written. That’s good.
But the bad news is that I won’t finish the first draft before the end of the month. I’m currently writing the last act of a three-part structure. But I expect it to be about 15-20k words yet.
I’ve been taking a lot of time planning the last part because it needs to wrap up the book and the whole series. I’m looking at the final section of the novel as its own mini-novel with an inciting event, conflict and resolution.
Also the last book, as a whole, needs to make references to the other four books. The protagonist from each of the other four novels plays a part in the last book. But that means that I have four very important characters from previous novels, plus all of the characters from the current novel. It demands that I give everyone enough “screen time” so that they all have a valuable contribution to the last story.
I’ll let you know how it works out…
